Film and Media Studies Major

The B.A. in Film with a concentration in film and media studies emphasizes media and society, production cultures, styles and genres, new media theory and practice and screenwriting. We share the same core requirements with the B.A. concentration in film and media production in the Herberger College of the Arts.

• FMS 100 - Introduction to Film (3 Credits)
• FMS 200 - Film History (3 credits)
• FMS 270 - Race and Gender in American Film (3 credits)
• THP 261 - Introduction to Screenwriting (3 credits)
• FMP 201 - Film: The Creative Process I: Production Survey (3 credits)
• FMP 250 - Sex and Violence in Film and TV: Ethics Survey (3 credits)

In addition to these core requirements, students interested in the film and media studies concentration are required to take the following additional courses:

• FMS 110 - Introduction to New Media (3 credits)
• FMS 490 - Capstone Seminar (3 credits)

Majors can select an area of emphasis in either Media and Society, Media Industries, Styles and Genres or Screenwriting.
